Brigitte Rodrigues

Lead vocals, backing vocals, percussion, piano, piano accordion, concertina and drum programming.
Born: 17 February
The middle child of three, Brigitte derives her Scottish blood from her mother's side who, although having spent most of their time in Inverness, had originally hailed from Durness. She derives her Portuguese blood from her father, who comes from Santa Cruz in Madeira. She was born in Salisbury, Rhodesia, as a deaf child, and had to undergo corrective surgery in 1981. Soon after the surgery Brigitte showed her potential for music and began playing tunes by ear on an inherited keyboard. Throughout her teens she participated in a number of local theatre shows over a period of ten years; singing, dancing, acting, playing piano and doing the musical direction in one of them. She has been the lead singer in a few live bands, and, in one instance, the musical co-ordinator and lead singer of a seven-piece band. She has done session singing on many advertising jingles, and was a music teacher for seven years.
David Scobie image David Scobie

Lead vocals, backing vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, piano, bodhran, percussion, harmonica, penny whistle, mandolin, tenor banjo, celtic bouzouki and drum programming.

Born: 17 September
Born in Dundee, Scotland, David was exposed to traditional Scottish folk music from the age of six. His parents took him to his first live concert held in Dundee where popular folk Duo "The Corries" blew David away. In 1973 the Scobie family moved to Salisbury, Rhodesia. From the age of ten, under the instruction of a close musical family friend, David began learning rudimentary chords on a guitar his parents had bought him. In 1980 David, aged fifteen had a hit-single in Southern Africa called "Gypsey Girl". The single was released in October 1980 and it went to No.1 in Rhodesia that November, staying there for the next four months. It was then released in South Africa in April 1981 and it bounced up and down the Springbok charts for nineteen weeks.
The single went Gold in both countries and David became an over-night celebrity. His next single "Taking The Easy Way Home" was recorded in April 1981 and by that June it had reached the Top Ten in both territories again. He went on to release five albums.
From 1983 to 2004 he endured a fruitful career in advertising jingles, producing and engineering. Over the years David repeatedly earned Advertising Awards for his efforts. In 1998, he staged two musicals and two comedy theatre productions to full houses around the country.

RHYTHM OF THE CELTS
During the making of 'Rhythm Of The Celts' our every endeavour was made to explore each of these songs with an enormous amount of due respect to Celtic history and tradition. Yet, not stifling our intuitions from venturing far into the openly fantasized worlds of our own artistic translations of these songs. In doing this we aim to retain and stress the vital importance of the role that traditional music should continue to play today to people of all ages and throughout the ever-changing times in new musical eras to come.
All of the tracks on this album were recorded, produced, arranged and played by Brogue.

GIRLS AND STRONG WHISKY

Welcome to our second album. It follows much in the style of the first, in that we bring to you Celtic traditional melodies interpreted with a rhythmic, rock feel and a scattering of world ideas.

Our ingredients for Brogue’s sound were born of influences from artists whom we have come to love and admire through the years. In addition, we are excited to introduce our arrangements of a few timeless Corries tunes without whose endless source of inspiration, our creative endeavours could not be complete.

We hope you’ll enjoy indulging in this Celtic journey … with a wee dram of course!

The Delphi Duo

The Delphi Duo comprises harpist Melanie Jones and soprano Hilary Campbell, who met five years ago whilst studying at the University of York. They first began working together performing for corporate and private functions, and since then have branched out to play at a range of venues nationwide. Last year, the pair moved down to London, and have continued to perform together at a variety of ceremonies and concerts.

The Delphi Duo is available to book for a range of functions, events and concerts. Harp and voice are always an extremely popular choice for weddings and other ceremonies, but the act is equally at home providing background music at parties or on the concert stage.

Melanie Jones (Harp)

Melanie started learning the harp at the age of 9 and studied with Pauline Rogers. At the age of 15 she won both the Sevenoaks Arts Council Award and was a Beckenham Festival musician of the year finalist. At the University of York Melanie became heavily involved in performing contemporary chamber music with the Chimera Ensemble, and frequently gave presentations on writing for the harp for postgraduate composition classes. She was a member of the Saariaho Trio, which among other things performed the Debussy trio for flute, viola and harp at the University graduation ceremonies in 2004. Throughout her time at York Melanie expanded her orchestral repertoire and freelanced with numerous orchestras and choirs throughout the northeast, including Scarborough Symphony Orchestra, York Symphony Orchestra, the St Cecilia Orchestra, the Arndale Orchestra, Leeds Symphony Orchestra, Harrogate Symphony Orchestra, the York Guildhall Orchestra, Yorkshire Bach Choir and the Yorkshire Baroque Soloists, as well as the Leeds Conservatoire Orchestra, University Symphony Orchestra and University Choir (York). For the last three Christmases she has been performing, and has recorded, Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols with the acclaimed Ebor Singers.

Now based in London, Melanie is studying piano accompaniment studies at the Royal Academy of Music, but nevertheless frequently performs as a harpist: as a soloist, with flautist Anne Allen, with singers from Trinity College London, and as part of the Delphi Duo with Soprano and award-winning composer Hilary Campbell. In September 2008, alongside continuing her studies at the Academy, Melanie took up the role of ‘Graduate Musician in Residence’ at Woldingham School in Surrey, where she continues to promote the harp as an instrument for study.

Hilary Campbell (Soprano)

Having read music at the University of York, Hilary subsequently continued postgraduate studies there, gaining a distinction for her MA in Vocal Studies in 2005. Following this, she worked as a singing teacher in both Yorkshire and the Midlands, and also ran music workshops as a part of VOICEBOX, a scheme she and a colleague devised in 2004. However, last September she moved to London to take up a place at Trinity College of Music, where she is now undertaking part time postgraduate studies in performance, supported by a scholarship from the South Square Trust.  In September, she also began the Mentor Scheme with the Sixteen.

Hilary performs frequently both as a soloist and with a number of ensembles; recent solo performances include Finzi’s Dies Natalis for Soprano and String Orchestra, Walton’s Façade (Narrator), Bach’s Magnificat and Wachet Auf, Berio’s Beatles Songs, Vaughan Williams’ Blake Songs, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Howells Requiem and Tippett’s Negro Spirituals.  She is also the founder, director and 1st soprano of vocal octet The Blossom Street Singers (www.blossomstreetsingers.com), a group which performs regularly all over the country for a variety of concerts and functions, and which appeared on BBC2 in December 2005.

In addition to her singing, Hilary is a keen composer; in August, she became Composer in Residence for the Ebor Singers (www.eborsingers.org), having won their inaugural Competition for Young Composers. She was also the winner of the Philip Bates Prize for Young Composers in 2004, and in 2006 was a finalist in the National Youth Choir Composition Competition. Some of her works have been performed at Birmingham Conservatoire, and last term, the Trinity College of Music Chamber Choir, directed by Stephen Jackson, premiered a new choral work of hers. Future projects include working with Sonitus (www.sonitus-choir.com), who will be performing one of her works at their launch concert next month, and Sonus Cantorum (www.sonuscantorum.co.uk), as well as a commission from a Dutch church choir.

Mana Live

Formed in 2006, Mana Live have quickly gained a reputation as one of the country's leading duos.

With a repertoire spanning the entire musical spectrum from Rat Pack classics like Mack The Knife and New York, New York, 50's rock'n'Roll hits such as Runaround Sue and Great Balls Of Fire, and 60's greats like Mrs Robinson and Bad Moon Rising, all the way through the 70's (Tiger Feet, Sloop John B.), 80's (Love Shack, Let's Stick Together), and 90's (More Than Words, Losing My Religion), right up to the new millennium with smash hits like I Predict A Riot and Take Your Mama Out, they recently reurned from the Caribbean after a critically acclaimed residency onboard the Ocean Village Cruise Liner.

With a combined experience of over 40 years...

...their shows are charged with an anarchic comedy and raw enthusiasm which has captivated audiences all over the world.
Dave Wrobel and Mat O'Neill have been performing since they could walk and their collective skills form the basis of a rock solid rapport, both with the audience and each other. This on-stage chemistry has led many people to wonder whether the two might actually be related, with some even going as far as saying they could be brothers...

Mana Live are outstanding musicians...

Their acoustic sets feature beautiful arrangements of great songs like Walk On The Wild Side, Livin' On My Own and I've Just Seen A Face, stunningly presented with strong vocals and tight harmonies, and compounded by live instrumentation as the guys switch effortlessly between guitars, piano, harmonica, keyboards, mandolin and clarinet to name but a few.
